Admission Process for Adult Daytime Programs

Cosmetology
Electrical Technician
Dental Assisting

  1. Complete online application.

  2. Register for the TABE test online.

  3. Score an Educational Functioning Level of 3 or higher in Reading and Math on the TABE test. If not, you can contact the Adult Basic Education center for tutoring.

  4. Provide the requested documentation needed to be considered for an interview (information is provided by email).

  5. Attend the scheduled interview with the instructor.

  6. Once accepted in the program, complete the background check and other paperwork as soon as possible.

  7. Submit for a random drug test when contacted prior to the program start date.

Practical Nursing

  1. Complete online application.

  2. To register for the TEAS test, come into the MCTEC office and complete the required paperwork. Cash, check, or money order is accepted to cover the $90 testing fee and must be paid when registering. A valid driver's license is required to test and will need to be brought to the testing location.

  3. Obtain a passing score on the TEAS test (overall score of 50 or above after 3/15/2024) or sign up to retake the test.  You can contact the Adult Basic Education Center for tutoring prior to retaking the test.

  4. Provide the requested documentation needed to be considered for an interview (information is provided by email).

  5. Attend the scheduled interview with the instructor.

  6. Once accepted in the program, complete the background check and additional paperwork as soon as possible.

  7. Submit for a drug test when contacted prior to the start of the program.

Students who have already passed the required testing:

  1. Fill out the online application.

  2. Log in to ATI and have your TEAS score sent to the Mercer County Technical Education Center (Practical Nursing only). For all other programs, please have the facility that provided your TABE testing send the official scores to kmutterb@k12.wv.us.

  3. Provide the requested documentation needed to be considered for an interview (information is provided by email).

  4. Attend the scheduled interview with the instructor.

  5. Once accepted in the program, complete the background check and other paperwork as soon as possible.

  6. Submit for a random drug test when contacted prior to the program start date.

**TEAS tests are valid for 24 months prior from the start date of the program.

**TABE tests are valid for 24 months from the start date of the program (Electrical, Dental, Cosmetology).
