Adult Daytime Programs Financial Aid Information

The Mercer County Technical Education Center participates in a variety of funding options for adult students attending our programs.  The primary source of financial aid at MCTEC is the Federal Pell Grant. The Federal Pell Grant does not require repayment and is available to assist eligible students with tuition and school related expenses. Eligibility for the Pell Grant is based on the student’s prior year’s income, family size, and selected program of training.

In order to qualify for the Federal Pell Grant, you must go online and complete the FAFSA. (https://studentaid.gov/)  Once you have completed the FAFSA, your information will be sent electronically to all of the schools you have listed on your application.  In order for MCTEC to receive your information, you MUST put in our Federal School Code.  (017054)

The Mercer County Technical Education Center participates in the following funding sources:  VA, WIOA, Trade Assistance Act, Division of Rehabilitative Services, DHHR, Americorps, and other sources as they become available. While we do not participate in the PROMISE scholarship (due to the fact we do not offer four year programs.) 

We do not participate in Federal Financial Aid Loans.  If you are interested in acquiring a loan, you would need to contact a bank or other institution on your own.  If you currently have loans, your repayment can be deferred while you are actively in school at MCTEC.

Additional Funding Sources

HEAPS Workforce

The WV HEAPS Workforce Grant is available for our daytime adult students attending one of our programs. The grant is provided through the West Virginia Higher Education Commission (WVHEPC) and will award money up to $2,000 for tuition and fees for WV residents who have out of pocket costs and who are eligible based on their FAFSA information. WV Nursing Scholarship

There is a Nursing Grant through the WVHEPC for students working towards a Practical Nursing certification.  The date of the grant is for the SPRING term, and the midpoint of the program is February 15th. Workforce WV

There is a funding opportunity through the WV Workforce for West Virginia students called WIOA.  Even if you do not qualify for Federal Aid, it will determine eligibility based on your income without looking at other factors (such as parent income or spouse income). Eligibility for WIOA is based on completion of the FAFSA at https://studentaid.gov/h/apply-for-aid/fafsa.

Once your FAFSA has been received by MCTEC, you will be sent the referral for WIOA funding if you are eligible. Please notify us if you are interested in WIOA funding and have been a resident of WV for 2 years.

Open to all adult students who are accepted into one of the adult programs at the Mercer County Technical Education Center. Recipients receive $500 in the fall and $500 in the spring. click on the image or the title to be taken to the application.

THE CORONAVIRUS AID RELIEF AND ECONOMIC SECURITY ACT (CARES) ACT EMERGENCY FUNDING FOR STUDENTS:

The Mercer County Technical Education Center acknowledges having signed and returned the certification agreement form to the US Department of Education.  In compliance with Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act, the Mercer County Technical Education Center intends to use at least 50% of the funds in the form of emergency financial aid grants to students.

The Mercer County Technical Education Center was notified that it will receive a total amount of $57,771 under the HEERF student portions. As of November 15, 2021, students are being notified they may obtain their distribution in person or through mail.

The Mercer County Technical Education Center identified 73 students who were eligible to receive relieve funds under the HEERF CARES Act.  Students received funding based on their enrollment status.

Notification of eligibility and checks are emailed and sent via the U.S. Postal Service to the address on file.
